AlleviatorBot
AlleviatorBot is the crawler behind Alleviator, a website accessibility checker. If you've seen it in your server logs, someone asked Alleviator to check your website against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), or turned on weekly monitoring for it.
What it does
- Loads your pages in a browser, once at desktop size and once at phone size, and runs accessibility checks.
- Follows links within your site and reads your sitemap, up to the page limit of the person's plan.
- Opens at most 3 pages at a time, and stops when the scan is finished.
- Presses Tab to check keyboard focus and may open a mobile menu. It never fills in or submits forms, signs in or buys anything.
How to recognise it
Its user agent contains AlleviatorBot:
Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; AlleviatorBot/1.0; +https://alleviator.app/bot)When it checks the phone layout, it uses a mobile browser user agent that also ends with that AlleviatorBot part.
How to keep it out
